empowering women to discover their voice

The thing about money is that for many of us there is only so much of it to go around. We all have the main household expenses we can't get away from like housing, transportation, food, and other common items. But what about when it comes to the non-essentials. Things like clothes, shoes, toys for the kids if you have them. Stuff that technically we can live without but don't necessarily want to. How do you determine how to spend that discretionary income?

Do you go without certain items, do you find deals, coupons and other ways to reduce expenses so you can stretch your dollar more?

What are your money saving tips?

How do you have the discipline to stick to it? That's my issue. I do really good for one shopping trip then it seems too much work. Any advice?
Don't take your kids ;-)
I love to visit thrift & consignment stores because I can always find some really great deals on name brand clothes, and even decorative pieces for the home. Sometimes home decor pieces need a little TLC, but if your the kind of person who likes fixing up an item and personalizing it, it's the perfect way to go! :) Some of my favorite places to look, are Goodwill, Plato's Closet, and then a few local places where I live. If you go look in yellow pages, or just drive around town, your almost guaranteed to find somewhere to shop for neat items inexpensively.
I agree with the going to a thrift store and taking time to find those nice things. And like Sabrina said getting stuff that don't look so go that you can give some TLC. I believe one persons trash if another persons treasure. I have found so many things that really looked like its life time was over but I was creative and "gave it life again" It is also fun making little projects out of it. Its i guess you could say more of a hobby to me. You can make it fun and save a ton of money. Anything i don't want or need anymore I donate to a few places where I get stuff. So I feel I am giving back and helping other people like me.

Both my Daughters work outside the home,so we came up with some solutions with the food..I buy in bulk.Things like potatoes, meats, fruits ( which we freeze in smaller bags),tea bags, cases of canned goods(divide up), laundry soaps, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and hand soaps..we divide them up each getting the portion they need..( and they pay accordingly)..Also Walmart accepts ANY store coupons..so I watch for that and being I am retired, I do this shopping and they do whatever extra they need..also they shop at second hand shoppes throughout the area for clothes...and my one daughter purchased 2 pairs of rollerblades still in the box for $ 5.00 each( the sports store wanted $85.00 each on sale)...we cut corners when ever possible..we also recycle and reuse when possible..

Both my daughters work outside the home..we buy in bulk..potatoes,canned goods, meat, soaps, toilet paper, cleaning supplies including laundry soap..anything we can get in bulk and then divide up proportionally, so you only pay for what you need..also Walmart accepts all other in store coupons, so I watch for that...this has helped us save alot of money. My one daughter just purchased 2 pairs of rollerblades ( the sports store wanted $85.00/pair) these were in the box, same namebrand..$ 5.00 each..each one of us will scope out the 2nd hand stores when we are in an area..we phone and photo to each other to confirm..saves time for everyone..I am retired so I do most of it but, we all save..recycling/ reuse is also a priority...

I started to cook at home. I love to do Chili Con Queso Dip. I really like this recipe, it seems to be tasty and the ingredients are interesting, but sometime when i need an easy recipe i use fastrecipes.com to get easy instructions for recipes. They also have an assortment of easy appetizer recipes which i use when i want to cook easily.

Sounds yummy!!
